Lecanorales

Map lichen ( Rhizocarpon geographicum )

The Lecanorales are an order of ascomycetes ( Ascomycota ) and contain a lot of lichen -forming species.

Features

The thallus is very diverse. The apothecia are round to bowl -shaped. The species that live in a lichen symbiosis, form apothecia, in which the asci are specially constructed with capitate thickened ends between paraphyses. The asci are clavate, thick-walled, partially multilayered. They also have a Scheitelwulst to the pore- like opening.

The Pflanzensymbionten ( photobiont ) of the lichen -forming species are green algae (eg Trebouxia, Coccomyxa ) and cyanobacteria ( Nostoc ).
