Lemešany

Lemešany (Hungarian Lemes ) is a municipality in the north-eastern Slovakia close to the D1 motorway (E 50), which connects here with Prešov Košice. The village lies in the valley of the river Torysa.

Administratively it is divided not only the actual place still in the district Chabžany; this was incorporated in 1965.

History

The village was mentioned in 1289 for the first time in writing as Lemes. In the 19th and 20th centuries the city was the seat of county government in the Hungarian county Sáros.
