Likhoslavl

Lichoslawl (Russian Лихославль ) is a town in Tver Oblast (Russia) with 12,257 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is situated on the edge of Lichoslawler ridge about 40 kilometers northwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Tver.

Lichoslawl is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1851 Saint Petersburg- Moscow, the former railway Nikolai ( kilometer 441 ), branches off from the here a series on Torzhok and Rzhev after Wjasma.

History

In place of the present town of a village Ostaschkowo has been known since 1624. A village called Lichoslawl was documented in the early 19th century, first mentioned in The places took an economic boom with the development of a railway junction with the opening of two railway lines in 1851 and 1870. A larger station settlement began to emerge.

1925 Village Station and settlement were united to the city Lichoslawl. From 1937 to 1939 she was the administrative center of a circle in the Karelian National Inventory of Tver Oblast.
