History

The first documented mention was already Kashin 1238, which it is likely to be one of the oldest cities in the Tver region. Presumably, the site was occupied at that time by the Tatars, precise details are not passed on. The name comes from the river Kashin Kasch Inca, whose shores were inhabited before the Slavic colonization of this area of Finno -Ugric peoples.

In the 13th century Kashin was part of the Suzdal principality, which burst into Muscovy in 1485. The location of the resort, close to the Volga favored, despite several setbacks such as the devastation in 1609 by Polish-Lithuanian invaders, its economic development. It expanded there not only trade, but also the blacksmith, the potter's craft and the icon painting.

1775 received Kashin, meanwhile, grew by numerous stone merchant houses and churches, the city status. In the 19th century the city's infrastructure was expanded significantly, so there arose the first time a public library, a hospital, and in 1890 the railroad that Kashin has connected via Kimry with Moscow. At the same time Kashin was awarded due to its mineral springs the status of a resort city.

With the territorial reforms in the 1920s and 1930s, the city and the Rajon Kashin belonged first to the Moscow Oblast, since 1935, then to Tver Oblast.
