Limeshain

Limeshain is a Hessian municipality in the Wetterau. The City Council and thus the seat of the municipality is located in the district Himbach.

Geography

The municipality consists of the villages Limeshain Hainchen, Himbach and Rommelshausen. It is bounded on the west and north by the municipality of Old Town, on the east by the city Budingen, in the south on the community Hammerbach ( Main- Kinzig-Kreis ) and on the southwest by the city Nidderau ( Main-Kinzig -Kreis).

History

The place Rommelshausen was first mentioned in 930 AD as documented Ruommothusen. The first mention of the place Himbach is found in a charter of Henry IV in 1057. Hainchen is first mentioned in 1367 as " To the grove ". Just as Himbach it belonged at that time to the court Eckartshausen.

The three previously various districts District assigned villages belonged from 1874 to the district Büdingen. On August 1, 1972, the district Büdingen were dissolved. The community Limeshain was assigned to the Wetterau.

Incorporations

On December 31, 1971, the municipality Limeshain was newly formed by the merger of the municipalities Hainchen, Himbach and Rommelshausen.

The acting mayor since 2002 Adolf Ludwig ( SPD) was re-elected on January 19, 2014 on the first ballot unopposed with 89.5 % of the vote for a third term. The turnout was 35.3 %.

Culture and sights

Through the municipality runs the Upper Germanic - Rhaetian Limes, an entertained by the Romans to about 260 AD border plant with forts and watchtowers. This includes the small fort " on the book head " at Rommelshausen. Even today in the terrain visible remains of these fortifications are preserved to the west south of Rommelshausen and can scale for this purpose trails to be explored.

A 25 meter long piece reconstructed part of the Limes shows the state of development around 200 AD The reconstruction was built in connection with an archaeological and natural history nature trail by the idea of a mayor Klaus D. Hühn during his tenure. A little further south of the stone tower of the sentry 4/103 was " Eckart houses Unterwaldstraße " reconstructed in 2013.
