Linda Purl

Linda Purl ( born September 2, 1955 in Greenwich, Connecticut ) is an American actress and singer. One of her most famous roles is that of Charlene Matlock in the eponymous television series.

Life and career

Linda Purl was born in 1955 as the daughter of an actor and a Broadway actress. At the age of five years, her family moved to Japan, where she was the only foreigner who trained at the Toho Geino Academy. During the time at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo Purl starred in several plays. She played the role of Louis in The King and I and the role of Helen in The Miracle Worker. At the age of 15 years, she returned to the U.S. and attended a private school for girls, which was specialized in creative and performing arts. After visiting the Finch College in Manhattan, she went to England to study under Marguerite Beale. After completing his studies, she returned to the United States to continue her training at the Lee Strasberg Institute. She was in several television roles, see for example the Ashley in the series Happy Days, or, as already mentioned, the Charlene Matlock in Matlock.

She was married four times: from 1980 to 1981 with Desi Arnaz Jr., 1988-1992 by William Broyles Jr. and from 1993 to 1999, Alexander Cary, who is the father of her son. Since July 2006 she has been married to James Vinson Adams. Through her ​​marriage to Desi Arnaz Jr., she was the daughter of Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball, and the sister of Lucie Arnaz.
