List of Alsace-Lorraine locomotives

This list shows the locomotives of the Imperial Railways in Alsace-Lorraine (EL ) and the Réseau d' ferroviaire Alsace-Lorraine (AL) are listed.

Name of locomotives

The Imperial Railways in Alsace-Lorraine locomotives numbered by continuously and gave them names. The names were given according to the design.

In addition, the locomotive stock was structured from the beginning in rows. This one was based on the scheme of the Bavarian State Railroad with capital letters and Arabic numerals following.

  • A - Quick - and passenger locomotives ( names of rivers )
  • B - locomotives for mixed service ( names of rivers )
  • C - freight locomotives (names of cities and towns )
  • D - Tender locomotives (names of persons, first name )
  • E - Narrow gauge locomotives ( no names )

For each delivery, a full range number was assigned.

1906 all vehicles was umgenummert and also a new type system was introduced. This time oriented themselves at the Prussian system. The individual types was assigned a certain number range.

  • S - express locomotives ( numbers 1-500 )
  • P - passenger locomotives ( numbers 501-1000 )
  • G - freight locomotives ( numbers 1001-2000 )
  • T - Tender locomotives ( numbers 2001-2600 )

Received the 1912 Locomotives again new numbers and in some cases, the generic name was changed. In addition, we removed the locomotive name.

  • S - express locomotives ( numbers 1-2000 )
  • P - passenger locomotives ( numbers 2001-3000 )
  • G - freight locomotives ( numbers 3001-6000 )
  • T - freight locomotives ( numbers 6001-9000 )

Narrow gauge locomotives were given the genus characters T and the number range 3001-3042. Double number assignments were thereby taken into account. Older locomotives were no longer renumbered and retained their number until retirement.

In 1919 the French state railway " Réseau ferroviaire d' Alsace-Lorraine " (AL), the system and led it until 1938 on, when the company went up in the SNCF.

The narrow gauge locomotives of the Reich railways were built for the scale in meter gauge railways Lützelburg-Drulingen/Pfalzburg, Colmar- Ensisheim and Colmar- Markolsheim.
