List of Counts at Sponheim

The County of Sponheim lived through over the centuries, roughly three main phases. The first lasted from the beginning in the 11th century to the first division of the County of Sponheim in two lines around 1234. During this first stage, the area was ruled by a single count.

In the second stage, the County of two counts was administered. The Front County of Sponheim dominated the line Sponheim -Kreuznach based on the Kauzenburg at Kreuznach. The Rear County of Sponheim was ruled by the line Sponheim Stark castle, located on the first Starkenburgring at Enkirch, and from 1350 on the Grevenburg at Trarbach. This stage lasted until the extinction of the two lines 1437th

Then, in the third phase, both parts of the county of common men were ruled as a condominium. The management of Rear County of Sponheim was between a branch line Palatinate (Pfalz - simmering, later Palatinate -Zweibrücken, Pfalz- Birkenfeld later ) and Baden shared that the Front County of Sponheim roughly between Baden and the Palatinate. The ruling houses of Sponheim condominiums were female descendants of Sponheim and bore the title of Count of Sponheim.
