Lois Hole

Lois Elsa Hole, CM, AOE ( born 1933 in Buchanan, Saskatchewan as Lois Elsa Veregin; † January 6, 2005 in Edmonton, Alberta) was a Canadian politician and writer. She was from 2000 until her death, Deputy Governor of the province of Alberta.

Biography

She grew up in her birthplace Buchanan. In 1944 she moved to Edmonton, there to complete their higher education career at the Strathcona Composite High School. In 1952 she married Ted Hole, with whom she had two children. In the same year, the couple bought a 0.8 sq km of land in the vicinity of St. Albert, where they planted mainly vegetables. 1979 this farm was a part of Hole 's Greenhouses & Gardens Ltd. , Which also included greenhouses. Her two sons joined the family business in also. To this day, it grew to become one of the largest horticultural companies in Western Canada.

As of 1967, Hole operated as school superintendent of the Sturgeon School Division, 1981, she moved to St. Albert School District, where she remained until the fall of 1998. It belonged next to several agricultural and charitable organizations. In 1993 she wrote her first book on the subject of horticulture, the 15 more followed. On 10 February 2000 she was appointed as the first woman Vice- Governor of the Province of Alberta and succeeds by Bud Olson. She held that post until her death.

From the Foundation named after her Hole as a woman with strong character and great visions ( woman of strong character and great vision ) is called. That's why it was not a difficult decision to name the Foundation after her.

Honors

Hole 1987 was honored with an honorary doctorate from Athabasca University. Fourteen years later, she received the Distinguished Citizen Honourary Diploma in Business from Grant MacEwan Community College. Shortly before her swearing in as lieutenant governor, she was awarded the Order of Canada in 1999. After taking office, she received the Alberta Order of Excellence automatically, which is awarded since 1971 every Lieutenant Governor of Alberta.
