The Loughborough University (English Loughborough University) is a university in Loughborough, Leicestershire, UK with nearly eighteen thousand students. She is a member of the European University Association and the Association of MBAs. The color of the university is purple.

History

The university was founded in 1909 as the Loughborough Technical Institute. During the First World War, workers were trained for the munitions industry in the Institute still. After the war, the Institute was split into four parts:

  • Loughborough Training College ( Teacher Training )
  • Loughborough College of Art ( Art and Design)
  • Loughborough College of Technology (technology and science )

1966 the fourth part was granted the status of a university. In 1977, the Institute of Teacher Education was included, followed in 1998 by the College of Art in 1996 hence the suffix " Technical" from the University name was deleted. 2006, the University of the Times was placed on the 6th rank of British universities, behind Oxford, Cambridge and three London universities. In 2008, the Sunday Times University of Loughborough awarded the title "University of the Year ," University of the Year 2008/2009.
