Lucebert

Lucebert ( born September 15, 1924 in Amsterdam, † 10 May 1994 in Alkmaar; actually Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk ) was a Dutch painter, graphic artist, poet and writer.

Life and work

He studied at the Amsterdam School of Applied Arts in 1938 from Lucebert broke after half a year. In 1948 Lucebert founded with other young poets and painters Experimentele Groep in Holland. Their goal was to "combat froze aesthetic conceptions " to allow " free development of new artistic principles." After joint work with Belgian and Danish artists such as Pierre Alechinsky and Asger Jorn and Carl -Henning Pedersen, they founded in Paris the group Cobra. Lucebert was mainly active as a poet in the group. Luceberts first reading of his poems on the occasion of the first Cobra exhibition ends with a scandal. After riots in the audience, the police had to prematurely end the lecture by Lucebert and his friends. 1969 Lucebert received an order from the city of Amsterdam to a play. In 1974 his Verzamelde published poems.

With surrealist and Dadaist influences Luceberts was as avant-garde poetry and revolutionary. He broke the usual rules of poetry and created a new, young and modern notation. His oeuvre also includes paintings, gouaches, drawings, prints and book illustrations.

He took part in documenta II (1959) and the documenta III in Kassel in 1964. In 1958, Lucebert his first solo exhibition in a gallery in Haarlem and in 1959 his first museum exhibition in the Amsterdam Stedelijk Museum. It is located in the cemetery Algemene begraafplaats in Bergen ( North Holland).
