MacAir Airlines Pty Ltd was an Australian regional airline based in Townsville, Queensland. It operated scheduled services to destinations within Queensland, as well as long-term and ad-hoc charter flights for the mining industry in Queensland. The home base was at the Townsville International Airport. More hubs were Cairns International Airport, Brisbane International Airport and Mount Isa Airport.

History

MacAir was founded in 1992 as a charter airline called Air Charters McKinlay and began flight operations in the same year. The line began operation in 1998. In 2000, the Collins family sold the company to Transjet, owner of transtate Airlines. Both companies were merged under the new name MacAir Airlines. In November 2003 MacAir acquired Horizon Airlines. Since then MacAir Airlines grew into one of the major airlines in the regional area and plays a leading role in passenger and freight transport within Queensland.

MacAir was a business partner of Qantas. Through their affiliation to QantasLink customers were given access to the Qantas Reservation System and other options, such as the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.

From the hub Townsville:

  • Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Winton, Longreach, Moranbah, Mackay, Emerald, Brisbane, Hughenden, Richmond, Julia Creek.

Charter flights for mining companies from Townsville to:

  • Osborne, BHP 's Cannington, Zinifex century mine.
