Man Man is an American experimental rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Man Man is known for their boisterous concerts. During the performance, the members are usually dressed uniformly white and painted with war paint.
The band uses pseudonyms - the frontman is Honus Honus and the other members Pow Pow, Chang Wang, Turkey Moth, and Jefferson.
Man Man uses many instruments, most often is the focus but the piano by singer and song lyricist Honus Honus. He is accompanied by playing a wide variety of instruments, the remaining members. While studio recordings Honus uses usually a normal piano, but during concerts, he plays a Fender Rhodes or a Nord Electro 3 Other instruments of the band are clavinet, Moog Little Phatty, sousaphone, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, flute, bass clarinet, percussion, euphonium, Fender Jazz Bass, Danelectro baritone guitar, xylophone, marimba, melodica and various percussion instruments, including pots, pans, toys, chinese funeral horns, spoons, broken dishes and fireworks.
History
Man Man released their debut album The Man in a Blue Turban with a Face in winter 2004 Ace Fu Records. Your first full tour followed, however, only with the Successor Six Demon Bag from 2006, which received good reviews.
In 2007 they were at several appearances during the U.S. tour, the opening act for Modest Mouse and were thus more attention. Shortly after, Nike launched a series of promotional videos with Rainn Wilson to show during One Mans 10 lb Mustache ran as background music. This song, as well as Feathers and Engwish Bwudd, was played in the eighth episode of the third season of Weeds. Man Man also recorded a cover version of Little Boxes for the intro of the sequence.
The third studio album Rabbit Habits on ANTI- Records was released in April 2008, accompanying by a North American tour in March with Yeasayer and Tim Fite. The band appeared at several festivals, including Voodoo Experience, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, All Tomorrow 's Parties in Camber Sands (East Sussex ), San Miguel Primavera Sound in Barcelona, and the Meredith Music Festival in Australia in the same year.
Their fourth album Life Fantastic they took together with producer Mike Mogis (of Bright Eyes and Monsters of Folk ) on in Omaha, Nebraska. It was released on May 10, 2011. Preliminary, the album was sold during the accompanying tour and released for free Listen on Soundcloud.
Trivia
The title of the album Six Demon Bag is a reference to the movie Big Trouble in Little China.
Before the band Man Man agreed on the name, they were called Gamelon and briefly Magic Blood.
Honus Honus has made an album with Nicholas Thorburn ( Islands, The Unicorns ) and Joe Plummer ( Modest Mouse, The Shins ) under the name of Mister Heavenly.
