Mandy Meyer

Mandy Meyer ( born August 29, 1960 in Balcarres / Saskatchewan, Canada ) is a Swiss rock guitarist.

He became better known when he won the legendary ex -Yes guitarist Steve Howe replaced in 1985 with the progressive AOR band Asia. Meyer is a founding member of the band Unisonic.

Life and career

Mandy Meyer is the son of an Anglo - Canadian and a Swiss dairy farmer. Mandy studied since the age of nine, playing on a marching drum, was for seven years a member of a drum club. During this time he acquired skills in playing the classical guitar. The age of fifteen he formed his first band with which he played in local clubs and student parties. In 1975, he became the lead singer and guitarist of the band BM Smith. In 1980, he accepted the offer of Chris von Rohr to replace the guitarist Tommy Kiefer at Crocus. He played with crocus on their U.S. tour.

In 1983 he founded the Survivor singer Jimi Jamison future the American hard rock band Cobra, with whom he recorded an album. It was recommended in 1984 for the rock band Asia as a guitarist with a recommendation of the producer John Kalodner of Geffen Records, with whom he recorded their third album in 1985. He left the band in 1987, to settle in Los Angeles as a session guitarist (for example, the House of Lords and Mark Ashton ), and played in his newly formed band Katmandü. In the late 1980s up to the 1990s, he worked as a studio musician in Los Angeles.

In the years 1996 to 2004 Mandy Meyer worked as a guitarist of the Swiss rock band Gotthard to play again later in one of his first band Krokus. Since November 2009, Meyer plays in the band Unisonic with the ex- Helloween Michael Kiske musicians and Kai Hansen and the Pink Cream 69 musicians Dennis Ward and Kosta Zafiriou. The debut album of the group, also titled Unisonic, will be published in March 2012.
