Mara Santangelo

Mara Santangelo ( born June 28, 1981 in Latina ) is a former Italian tennis player.

Career

Santangelo, which began with the sport of tennis at the age of nine years, in 1998 elite player.

On February 19, 2006, she won a three-set victory in the final over Jelena Kostanic the Tier III tournament Bangalore Open. In addition, she won eight ITF tournaments. In each of the four Grand Slam tournaments she got 2006/2007 at least once in the third round in Melbourne in 2004 even in the second round.

Much more successful was her career in women's doubles, where she won a total of nine career titles, including at the side of Alicia Molik 2007, the Grand Slam tournament of the French Open.

With the Italian team won the trophy in 2006 in the women's team competition Fed Cup.

On January 28, 2011 Mara Santangelo was because of persistent foot problems her retirement from professional sports known.

Personal

Santangelo lives in Rome. After growing up in Latina lived and trained them during their professional career mainly in the north (Verona, Cavalese and Bolzano ).
