Marcin Wasilewski

Marcin Wasilewski ( born June 9, 1980 in Krakow, Poland ) is a Polish footballer.

Career

Club career

Wasilewski (nicknamed " Robocop " for his tough style of play ) began his career at Hutnik Krakow. In 2000 he moved to Slask Wroclaw, who were at that time risen to the Ekstraklasa. After relegation from the first division in 2002, he moved to league rivals Wisła Płock.

After the team had in 2005 with the fourth place achieved the best result in previous club history, Wasilewski signed with Amica Wronki. After the merger of the Association in 2006 with Lech Poznan he remained for half a year at the federated club before he moved to the First Division for RSC Anderlecht for 800,000 euros transfer fee during the winter break to Belgium.

When League match between RSC Anderlecht and Standard Liege on 30 August 2009 Wasilewski was fouled by his opponent Axel Witsel and suffered a double leg break open. The challenge drew considerable criticism by itself; there were pronounced, among other death threats against Witsel.

On 27 November 2010 he made ​​his comeback against RSC Charleroi, as he was substituted for Jan Polák. In the following match against SV Zulte Waregem, he scored a goal. Then, his contract was extended until 2013. For the 2013/14 season changed Marcin Wasilewski to the English second division Leicester City and signed a one-year contract.

Paweł Wasilewski brother is also a professional footballer and played among other things, the Polish second division Kmita Zabierzów and Stal Stalowa Wola.

National

Wasilewski debuted in the Polish national team on 20 November 2002 in the game against Denmark. On 6 December 2006, he scored his first goal in a 5-2 win against the choice of the United Arab Emirates for a 1-0 lead. Wasilewski was both at the European Championships in 2008 and at Euro 2012 squad in the Polish national team.
