Marjana Lipovšek

Lipovšek (born 3 December 1946 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian concert and opera singer (mezzo- soprano) and actress.

Life

Lipovšek, daughter of composer Marijan Lipovšek (1910-1995), who was from 1968 to 1970 Rector of the Academy of Music in Ljubljana ( Academia za glass ins v Ljubljani ), the subjects took there music education and singing. After graduating in 1970, she studied until 1977 at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz opera and concert singing, from 1978 at the Opera Studio in Vienna. A grant from the Walter Kaminsky Foundation enabled her in 1980 also completed a course in voice training at Charlotte Kaminsky ( 1904-1989 ) and Prof. Erik Werba.

Her career as an opera singer, she began at the Vienna State Opera in 1979, in 1981 she was also engaged at the Hamburg State Opera. She also appeared in the episode at many major opera houses, including Munich, Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt / M., Barcelona, ​​Milan, London, Chicago, New York, San Francisco.

For international festivals, she was invited to Berlin, Bregenz, Vienna, Edinburgh, Florence, Prague, Salzburg.

In her performances she has worked with renowned conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Colin Davis, Michael Gielen, Bernard Haitink, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Helmuth Rilling, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Georg Solti and Horst Stein.

She has also appeared in films such as Jacob the Liar and The Grey Zone, as well as TV productions of Daphne, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Die Walküre and Tristan und Isolde.

Marjana Lipovsek is married to the opera singer Alfred Burgstaller. Today she lives in Vienna and Salzburg and has also worked as a singing teacher.
