Mark Andrews (politician)

Mark Andrews ( born May 19, 1926 at Cass County, North Dakota ) is an American politician of the Republican Party. He represented the state of North Dakota in both chambers of Congress.

Life

Andrews served 1944-1946 in the U.S. Army and was a cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point, until he was dismissed in 1946 as unfit. He then studied at North Dakota State University in Fargo, where he graduated in 1949. Andrews was initially a farmer. On the work of farmers' associations he got into politics.

From 1958 to 1962 he was a member of the Republican National Committee and was elected on October 22, 1963 in a special election to fill the vacant seat of the late new Hjalmar Carl Nygaard, in the 88th Congress. Thus, Andrews was on 22 October 1963 to 3 January 1981 member of the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1980, he no longer went for election to the House of Representatives to, but for Senate election. From 3 January 1981 to January 3, 1987 worked as a senator, he failed in 1986 to be re- elected to the U.S. Senate. With 0.73 percentage points difference, he was defeated by Democrat Kent Conrad.

Andrews has established a consulting firm in Washington and was a board member of the automotive supplier Tenneco. He now lives in Mapleton, North Dakota.
