Martin Grenier

Martin Grenier ( born November 2, 1980 in Laval, Quebec ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is under contract with HC Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Kontinental Hockey League since 2008.

Career

Martin Grenier began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior Football League QMJHL, where he was active for the Quebec Remparts and Victoriaville Tigres 1997-2001. During this period, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 in the second round than a total of 45 players from the Colorado Avalanche for which, however, he never played. Instead, the defender signed on 27 June 2001 as a free agent contract with the Phoenix Coyotes, for in the National Hockey League, he stood from 2001 to 2003 in eight games on the ice. However, most of the time he spent at their farm team in the American Hockey League, the Springfield Falcons. After one season with the Vancouver Canucks and their AHL farm team Manitoba Moose, the Left shooter was released on 9 March 2004, together with RJ Umberger in exchange for Martin Ručínský to the New York Rangers.

In the two years in the franchise of the New York Rangers Grenier came exclusively for their farm team, the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL and the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL, used, whereby it only for the Checkers during the lockout in the NHL season 2004 / 05 aground in four games. From 2006 to 2008 he was with the Philadelphia Flyers under contract, for which, however, he completed only three games during the 2006/07 season in the NHL. The rest of the time he played for their AHL farm team Philadelphia Phantoms. For the 2008/09 season the Canadians signed with HC Traktor Chelyabinsk of the newly formed Kontinental Hockey League, for in 49 games, he scored two goals in his first season and gave five assists.
