Martin Harnik ( born June 10, 1987 in Hamburg) is a football player with German and Austrian nationality. He plays since 2010 for VfB Stuttgart.

Martin Harnik grew up as the son of a woman from Hamburg and one in the Styrian Kirchwerder district.

Career

Association

Harnik began in 1992 in Hamburg with TSV Kirchwerder playing football. The club closed in 1999 along with the SV Ochsenwerder -Moor Fleet SC for four-and marshlands. During the winter break of the season 2005/06 Harnik Werder Bremen joined, where he was first employed in the regional team and 13 games completed. The trained striker trained already in the winter break of the 2006/07 season in the pros before he drew upon a metatarsal fracture that put him out of action and almost cost him the entire second half. For the 2007/08 season he signed a professional contract with Werder Bremen until 2010.

His competitive debut was Harnik on August 15, 2007, when he came on in the qualifiers for the Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb. In the Bundesliga, he played for the first time on 25 August 2007. He came off the bench against 1 FC Nuremberg in the 61st minute and scored his first Bundesliga goal in the 69th minute. The young striker came in Bremen as a full-back again and again to short sessions and was retrained in advance of the 2009/10 season specifically for right -back.

On January 6, 2012 Martin Harnik extended his contract at VfB Stuttgart ahead of the end of June 2016. During winter training camp in Belek, Turkey, he was elected in January 2012 in the team committee of VfB Stuttgart. On February 11, 2012 Harnik scored in the 5-0 home win at VfB Stuttgart vs Hertha BSC first three goals in a league game.

National

Because Martin Harniks German mother and his father is Austrian, Martin Harnik could choose whether he wanted to play for the German or Austrian selection for the teams. Following a recommendation of Austria Vienna, he was invited to the Austrian junior national team and ended up with it on the notepad of bigger clubs and the German junior national team.

In his first race for the Austrian national team in match against the Czech Republic on 22 August 2007, he appeared as a substitute in the 72nd minute and scored in the 78 minutes the equalizer at 1-1 with his second ball contact. Hickersberger nominated Harnik in the Austrian squad for the 2008 European Championship in Austria and Switzerland.
