Matt Walsh (basketball)
Matthew Vincent Walsh ( born December 2, 1982 in Holland, Pennsylvania) is an American professional basketball player. After a short career start in the most highly endowed professional league NBA Walsh played professionally in various European countries. He was twice champion of Belgium with Spirou Charleroi BC and 2012 Ukrainian runner with Asowmasch Mariupol. Since February 2013 Walsh plays for the former German double winners Brose Baskets in Bamberg.
Career
After high school, Walsh attended until 2002, the " Prep School " German Town Academy in Fort Washington to prepare for the study. He then spent three years at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he played for the college team Gators in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the NCAA Division I. In each of the three seasons, the Gators were able to qualify for the national finals of the NCAA and never got beyond that of the second round. 2005 won the Gators in their squad, among other things, the future NBA player Joakim Noah, Al Horford, Corey Brewer, Anthony Roberson, David Lee, Taurean Green and Lee Humphrey later Bundesliga profile stood, the championship tournament of the SEC. Following the departure in the NCAA finals Walsh gave up a fourth college season and signed up for the Entry Draft, while many of his teammates continued to play and won the NCAA College Cup for the Gators in the following year for the first time.
Walsh was not selected in the NBA Draft in 2005, but was able to earn a place in the squad of the Miami Heat in the NBA over the " Summer League ". After he had survived the "cut " before the season started for the final season squad, but was dismissed again after only two appearances in November 2005 and joined at the beginning of the following year the Arkansas RimRockers in the NBA Development League, where he again Roberson and played together with, among others, Clay Tucker. After the summer of 2006 he was able to earn a place in an NBA roster in the Summer League, he changed for the 2006 /07 to Europe and played in the Greek A1 Ethniki for the Olympics from Larisa. Together in a team with, among others, the German national team Stephen Arigbabu and Greek promising young Giorgos Printezis GS Olympia succeeded after the seventh main round place for the first time qualifying for the play-offs to the Greek championship, but in which one was eliminated in the first round against Aris Salonika. Walsh led with nearly 18 points per game, the team and was second best scorer in the league and participants in the " All-Star Game" of the Greek league.
For the season 2007/ 08 Walsh joined in the Spanish ACB League for Ricoh Bàsquet from Manresa. For the Catalan Premiership returnees Walsh was named Player of the Week because of its effectiveness values on matchday. In February 2008, the Movers but Walsh released from his contract and committed Toby Bailey of the insolvent Cologne 99ers. Walsh joined the Belgian League to Spirou Charleroi from BC, where he among other things, Michael -Hakim Jordan could bring back the championship title after four years of interruption. Was appointed in the following season 2008/ 09, in the Walsh Most Valuable Player of the Belgian league, you could even win a domestic double for the club. The Cup victory was Walsh win with KK Union Olimpija from Ljubljana master in the following season 2009/10 in Slovenia. In the season 2010/11 Walsh joined the French LNB Pro A ASVEL to record champions from Villeurbanne. ASVEL reached sixth of the main round the play-off semi-final series in which we eliminated by eventual champion SLUC Nancy. In November 2011 he returned to the ACB league and played for the upwardly UCAM Murcia, which he, however, already left after two months. After another four-week contract with the Basque club Caja Laboral Vitoria -Gasteiz, he played the season in the Basketball Super League Ukraine for Asowmasch from Mariupol to an end. However, the previously accustomed to success club lost for the second time in a row a championship final series, this time against the trained Saša Obradovic BK Donetsk. In the season 2012/13 Walsh returned to his Belgian club Spirou Ex - BC, who had also lost for the first time since 2008 the championship final series. Here he first played with, among others the former Bundesliga players Derrick Allen and Je'Kel Foster, before the latter moved back to the Bundesliga to Alba Berlin in December 2012.
