Michael Hayden (general)

Michael Vincent Hayden ( born March 17, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ) is a former general of the U.S. Air Force and former director of the CIA (30 May 2006 to 12 February 2009). Until his military retirement in 2008 he was the first director of the CIA since 1981, which was still active soldier.

Military career

Hayden, son of a welder, studied history at Duquesne University. In 1967, he received a bachelor's degree as well as the officer's commission and therefore his appointment as Second Lieutenant; Master's degree in modern American history, he acquired in 1969. The Civil War fascinates him to this day. Hayden is a graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps program. From April 2005 to May 2006 as General Hayden was the first Deputy Director of National Intelligence.
