Michael Marcus (musician)
Michael Marcus ( born August 25, 1952) is an American jazz and blues musician (tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, clarinet, soprano saxophone, manzello, Stritch ).
Life and work
Michael Marcus began his music career in the 1970s in blues bands of Albert King and Bobby Bland with Mel Brown. In the 1980s and 1990s, he worked with musicians of the free jazz scene, as with Sonny Simmons ( Blackwoods Suite ), Frank Lowe, Phillip Wilson, Jemeel Moondoc, Denis Charles, Makanda Ken McIntyre and others. So he worked in 1996 on the Trio album Transcendence of Simmons with Charles Moffett with. In 2000 he played in the Simmons Band with James Carter, William Parker and Jay Rosen. As a baritone saxophonist, he worked in 2001 Moondoc. In 1991 he released his first album under his own name with Enja, Under The Wire, with Joseph Bowie, William Parker and Reggie Nicholson.
