Michael Rawson

Michael Arthur Rawson ( born May 26, 1934 in Hall Green, Birmingham, † 26 October 2000 in Birmingham ) was an English athlete. At a height of 1.78 m his competition weight was 72 kg.

Career

As a 19 year old Michael Rawson had over 880 yards recorded only modest 2:30 min. He rose, however, and won in 1956 in 1:51,3 min, the AAA Championship. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, he started in the 800 -meter run. He divorced his fifth semifinal of in 1:50,4 minutes.

1958 won Rawson's compatriot Brian Hewson the AAA Championship of the British about 880 yards ahead of Michael Rawson and the Australian Herb Elliott. End of July, won at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff Elliott in 1:49,32 minutes ago Hewson in 1:49,47 minutes and Rawson in 1:50,94 minutes.

At the European Championships in mid-August in Stockholm Elliott was not an Australian at the start and Hewson appeared on the 1500 -meter run, which he also won. Rawson won his heat in 1:50,4 minutes. In the semifinals he was only fourth behind the German Paul Schmidt, the Hungarian Lajos Szentgali and the Norwegian Audun Boysen in 1:50,1 minutes. The final developed as a very fast race and Rawson won in 1:47,8 minutes with a tenth of a second ahead of Boysen and Schmidt, he had both überspurtet in the final meters. After the finish Rawson was disqualified because of a Remplers in the first corner. He had to wait two hours for the jury reversed the disqualification and Rawson told the European champions.

Michael Rawson ran his best time of 1:47,0 minutes also in 1958 during an international match against France in second place behind Hewson. He was a member of the Birchfield Harriers. He was named after his title in 1956 over 880 yards second in 1957 to 1959. His last race he competed in 1965 when he won more than 440 yards in 49.6 seconds, the AAA indoor championship.
