Michel Herr

Michel Herr ( born February 16, 1949 in Brussels) is a Belgian jazz pianist, composer and arranger.

Life and work

Lord has been active since the 1970s in the jazz scene. In 1974, he joined with Wolfgang Engstfelds and Uli Becker on Hoff's group jazz track. He played among others with Joe Lovano, Joe Henderson, Chet Baker, Archie Shepp, Charlie Mariano, Johnny Griffin, Lee Konitz, Bill Frisell, Randy Brecker, Art Farmer, Pepper Adams, John Abercrombie, Lew Tabackin, Palle Mikkel Borg, Palle Danielsson Paolo Fresu, Aldo Romano, Riccardo Del Fra, Jean -François Jenny -Clark, Daniel Humair, Richard Galliano, Norma Winstone, Philip Catherine, Steve Houben and Bert Joris. Since 1984 he was a regular attendant of Toots Thielemans on his tours and concerts.

Mr. initiated in the course of his career several groups of their own, starting with the fusion band " Solis Lacus " in the 1970s. With Wolfgang Engstfeld he led a quartet ( with drummer Leroy Lowe and changing bass players ), with Lowe and Hein van de Geyn a trio ( " Intuition " 1989 ), with Engstfeld, Bert Joris, Riccardo Del Fra and Dré Pallemaerts the " Michel Herr European Quintet " ( " Notes of Life ", Igloo ), with strings added to" Michel Herr Unexpected Encounters " and the nine-member " Michel Herr & Life Line " ( inter alia with Houben, Bert Joris ). With his bands he often plays his own compositions, which he arranges inter alia, for the " Brussels Jazz Orchestra" (Suite for David Linx 2007) and led by him ACT Big Band. He also plays in " Fabrice Alleman Quartet" ( "Loop the Loop" 1998 " Side of Life ").
