Miguel Cotto

Miguel Ángel Cotto ( born October 29, 1980 in Caguas, Puerto Rico ) is a Puerto Rican professional boxer and former super champion of the WBA light middleweight.

Amateur

In 1997, Cotto managed the victory at lightweight at the Pan Championships in Cartagena.

The Junior World Cup in 1998 in Buenos Aires he finished in second place, he lost the final against the Russians Anton Solopov. Even with the Pan-American Junior Championships in the same year in Toluca he took second place. The Central American and Caribbean Games in 1998 in Maracaibo, he penetrated again prior to the final competition, where he failed to Mario Kindelán.

Professional

Cotto was taken in 2001 in the United States in the light welterweight professional and Bob Arum under contract. Welterweight

In 2006 he resigned his WBO title and ascended to the welterweight division. Ricky Hatton had previously resigned his WBA title to return to the light welterweight. Cotto was allowed to take boxing in his first fight in this weight class on 12 December 2006 to this, now vacant, title against unbeaten also his countryman Carlos Quintana, a member of the World top southpaw. He defended the WBO title in June 2009 against the Ghanaian Joshua Clottey before losing him on 14 November 2009 at the Filipino Manny Pacquiao by TKO defeat in the twelfth round.

Light Middleweight

On 5 June 2010, he won by technical whacked against the undefeated Yuri Foreman, the regular world title by the WBA. This was upgraded after his victory against Ricardo Mayorga technical knockout, the Super World Champion title.

5 May 2012 Cotto lost that title to the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr by point decision.

On 1 December 2012 Cotto Austin Trout tried to wrest the WBA World Title, but suffered his fourth professional defeat after point counting.
