Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Israel)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Hebrew משרד החוץ, Misrad HaChutz ) is responsible for the foreign policy of Israel. In addition, it is intended to build economic, cultural and scientific relations with other countries. In 77 states, Israel maintains its own embassies, consulates general in 19 states and five other states special missions. In conjunction with the United Nations Israel maintains four Diplomatic Missions and the European Union. The first state to recognize Israel, the United States was eleven minutes after its founding. The first ambassador was Golda Meir, who was accredited in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics from June 1948 until January 1949.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been around since the Constitution of the Provisional Government on 12 April 1948. Was first foreign minister Moshe Scharet, who took over this function in eight successive governments. Golda Meir was the Minister with the longest tenure (June 18, 1956 to January 12, 1966 ). Since November 11, 2013 leads Avigdor Lieberman, Jisra'el Beiteinu, the ministry said.

The Ministry is in the government complex in Givat Ram (Jerusalem), " Kiryat Ben Gurion ," also called " Kiryat HaMemshala " on Yitzhak Rabin Boulevard 9 in Jerusalem.

In the first cabinet of Yitzhak Shamir, the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs has been introduced. With exceptions in the governments of 22, 27, 30 and 31, there have been nine Deputy Foreign Minister.
