Third government of Israel

The Cabinet David Ben- Gurion III was the third Israeli government, which was led by David Ben- Gurion. It was formed two months after the second general election of 30 July 1951. The coalition government was composed of members of the parties: Mifleget Poale Eretz Israel, workers of the Mizrachi, Intellectual Center, Agudah, Workers of the Agudat Israel and the three Arab parties represented Israelis: Reshima Demokratit LeAravei Yisrael, Kidma VeAvoda and Hakla'ut VePituah. The government consisted of fifteen ministers.

On September 23, 1952, the representatives of the Agudah and the workers of the Agudat Israel left the coalition after Kalman Kahana was appointed a Deputy Minister. Before there was already controversy over the question of the participation of women in the armed forces of the country. Thus, the coalition held just 60 seats in the Knesset.

Because of the dispute over the religious education religious parties left the government on 19 December 1952 whereby it has been incapacitated and dissolved.

During the reign found within the Cabinet reshuffles some place:

  • Levi Eshkol was replaced on 25 June 1952 as Minister of Agriculture by Fritz Naphtali, Eshkol took over instead of the Ministry of Finance Eliezer Kaplan. On this day also Dov Yosef was replaced as Minister of Justice by Chaim Cohn.
  • After the death of Eliezer Kaplan on July 13, 1952, the post of Deputy Prime Minister has not been filled.
  • After the death of David - Zvi Pinkas took over on August 14, 1952 David Ben-Gurion in addition, the Ministry of Transport.
