Most successful in this category, Frenchman Laurent Terzieff (1988 and 1993), Patrice Chéreau (1989 and 1996) and Alain Francon were (1995 and 2010), who could win the award twice each. But most often nominated without a win so far remained the Argentinian Jorge Lavelli and Frenchman Didier Long, who brought it to seven nominations 1987-1996 respectively in 1997 and 2009.
