Montecchio Emilia

Motecchio Emilia is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 10,381 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Reggio Emilia in Emilia -Romagna. The community is located about 14 kilometers west of Reggio Emilia and about 13.5 kilometers southeast of Parma at the Enza River, a tributary of the item since 2008 leads the church the title of Città (City).

History

In ancient times, the settlement was known as Monticulum. Here the Enza could be crossed at the upper Apennines. Later, the village belonged to the surrounding villages to the Duchy of Modena and below regarding Cispadanischen Republic.

Traffic

Today's State Road 9 Emilia roughly corresponds to the course of the ancient Via Emilia. It runs just north of the community parallel to the Autostrada A1 from Milan to Florence and Rome.
