Mordechai Tzipori

Mordechai Zipori (Hebrew מרדכי צפורי, * Mordechai Hankovitsch - Hendin, Hebrew מרדכי הנקוביץ `- הנדין, on September 15, 1924 in Petah Tikva, League of Nations Mandate for Palestine ) is a former Israeli politician.

Life

In Petah Tikva, he attended a religious school. From 1939 he was a member of the Zionist underground organization Irgun, and 1945, he was therefore arrested by the British and spent from Palestine to Eritrea, Kenya and Sudan. Although he managed to escape from a prison camp in Eritrea, he was caught again and was imprisoned until 1948. After the establishment of Israel, he was a professional soldier and served from 1948 to 1976 in the Israeli armed forces. During his time in the army he began to study at a military academy. After his degree there in 1959, he studied at the University of Tel Aviv.

Zipori was from 1977 to 1984 Member of the Knesset of the Likud. In addition, he was assistant secretary of defense in both the 18th and in the 19th Government 28 June 1977 to 10 October 1983. He was in the 19th and 20th Government, on 5 August 1981 to September 13, 1984 communications Minister.
