Mouthoumet

Mouthoumet ( Occitan: Motomet ) is a commune with 121 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Aude department in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It belongs administratively to the district of Carcassonne and the Canton Mouthoumet whose capital it is.

Geography

The municipality is located in the mountains of Haute Corbieres, about 60 kilometers south-west of Narbonne and 70 km south-east of Carcassonne, on a rocky plateau, which also Massif de Mouthoumet is called. Neighboring municipalities are:

  • Vignevieille in the north,
  • Termes in the Northeast,
  • Laroque -de- Fa in the east and south,
  • Auriac in the southwest,
  • Lanet in the west and
  • Salza in the northwest.

The town itself is approximately in the center of the village, on a hill, so that the western part of the municipal area in the northwest direction drained and the eastern part in a northeasterly direction. It is this to be a number of small streams, but which are ultimately all of the river Orbieu collected and forwarded to the Aude.

Transport links

The community is located off on regional roads. The only regional transport connection is made by the department D613 road that leads from Narbonne to Cuiza.

Economy

Mouthoumet is dominated by agriculture, but is on a less productive land that are operated on the most goats and sheep. The goat's milk cheese produced here is part of the protected brand AOC Pélardon.
