The Europa 2 is a cruise ship in the shipping company Hapag -Lloyd Cruises. It was (formerly Chantiers de l' Atlantique) built since September 2011 at STX France in Saint- Nazaire and delivered at the end April 2013 to the Client. Since it is used by the shipping company for cruises on various trades.
History
Construction and commissioning
In December 2010, Hapag- Lloyd Cruises commissioned the French shipyard STX France in Saint Nazaire, to build a new cruise ship that was to be made in 2013 as Europe 2 in service. The interior was designed by the German naval architect office PSD.
The steel cutting began on 5 September 2011 and the keel was laid on 1 March 2012 by lowering the first module in the dry dock. After fourteen other modules of the new building left on July 6, 2012, the building dock and has since completed further at the fitting. After the successful test runs the shipyard Europe could be 2 passed on April 26, 2013 Hapag -Lloyd. On 10 May 2013, the ship in Hamburg, was baptized during the 824th Port Birthday by Dana Schweiger, ex- wife of actor Til Schweiger.
Use
The Europa 2 ran on May 11, 2013 on her maiden voyage, which resulted from Hamburg to Barcelona. Meanwhile the ship for cruises is used in the Mediterranean. Machinery and drive
The Europa 2 is equipped with a diesel-electric machinery. Four series diesel engines ( six-cylinder four -stroke diesel engines ) of MaK drive generators which develop an electrical output of 18,000 kW. They supply the entire ship with electrical energy. Electricity generation is according to load, depending on the energy required, the motor - generator units are switched on or off. To ensure safe operation, the machine system is technically and spatially divided into two independent groups. The operation of the machine and drive system is fully automated and is monitored from the control room on deck 3.
The ship was equipped with two hanging under the fuselage propeller gondolas type Rolls- Royce, Converteam "Mermaid". In each gondola is an electric motor which drives a 4-blade fixed pitch propeller with a diameter of 4.60 m. The propellers are aligned towards the front ( tractor propeller ) and turn up to 155/min. Since the nacelles are rotated by 360 °, it takes power the electric motors via slip rings.
To assist maneuvering in ports and at low speeds, two cross beam steering systems with a capacity of 1500 kW are installed in the bow of the ship. To reduce roll and pitch motions in rough seas, the Europa 2 has a pair of fin stabilizers with an area of 14 m² each, which were manufactured by Blohm Voss.
The drinking water treatment on board is provided by two steam generators and a reverse osmosis system.
Environment
The Europa 2 is the first cruise ship on which an SCR catalyst works. It aims to provide 75 percent of the sulfur from the flue gases harmless and reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by almost 95 percent. In sensitive areas such as ports, Baltic and North Sea marine diesel oil must now be used instead of the heavy oil used otherwise. The limits of the International Maritime Organization (IMO ) for the sulfur content in fuel in 2015 and 2020, which exacerbates nitrogen oxides 2016.
