Muhr am See

Muhr am See ( officially Muhr a.See ) is a municipality in the district of White Castle -Gunzenhausen, Middle Franconia and is located about 50 km southwest of Nuremberg on Altmuehlsee. An important economic base of the town is today - due to the lake and vast forests in the area - tourism.

Geography

It is situated in the Franconian Lake District, about five kilometers north of Gunzenhausen. South flows between the village and just 400 meters away Altmuehlsee the Altmühltherme through.

History

The first reference to the Lords of Muhr dates from the year 888 893 For the place name vicus mura is called. The castle was built in the early 12th century Altenmuhr that - not received - Neuenmuhrer Castle about a century later. 1525 was enforced by Veit Lentersheim of the Reformation. 1632 almost Neuenmuhr was burnt down during the Thirty Years' War, only castle and church remained. 1752 the gatehouse was built in Altenmuhr. 1799 Muhrer locks came - from Schiller 1781 immortalized in the robbers - in the possession of the Prussian Minister Karl August von Hardenberg. 1810 were elderly and Neuenmuhr Bavarian. The locks were in 1837 in the possession of Wilhelm von Le Suire on. In 1938 the Jewish community of Altenmuhr was violently broken up under the rule of the National Socialists.

Muhr am See has existed in its present form only since 1 January 1976. During the Bavarian municipal reform the two previous places Altenmuhr and Neuenmuhr were combined into a unified community. At this time it was already clear that near the place later ( 1986) the Altmuehlsee would occur as part of the Franconian Lake District, the new municipality was named " Muhr am See ".

Events

The fact that the plot of the robbers of Friedrich Schiller was located in the original five Muhrer castles, is supported by the Summer Festival bill. The Altmühltherme Lake Festival will take place on the outdoor stage in Buergerhof.
