Münsterland Giro

The savings banks Munsterland GIRO is a one-day cycling race in the Munsterland, a northern landscape in the German state of North Rhine -Westphalia. It represents the successor of the race Groningen Minster, which was the last time you played in 2005.

The race thus there since the 2006 season and was accepted the same in the racing calendar of the UCI Europe Tour. It is classified in the UCI category 1.1 and takes place on the day of German unity.

Route

The first edition, as planned for all other, took place on 3 October, on the Day of German Unity, held and led the field of 203 kilometers from Coesfeld about Nottuln, Havixbeck and Billerbeck to Münster, where the destination on the former Hindenburgplatz (now Schlossplatz) was located. The route to the target round was based on a stage of the Giro d' Italia, which led in 2002 from Groningen to Munster and there ended on the said place Hindenburg.

In the coming years the race will each account for another circle around Münster station, so that the entire Munsterland is integrated and can be up to its name. In 2007, the start of the savings banks Munsterland GIRO in the district of Steinfurt, in 2008 in the district of Borken, 2009 in the district of Warendorf and 2010 for the umpteenth time in Coesfeld. After a several times to moving large round by the respective circle it comes to the finals at the downtown cathedral course, where the destination is located.

2006 race

The first edition of the race was determined by a four -man lead group that deposed already on the first round of the main draw and temporarily drove out up to eight minutes ahead. The winner of the race, Paul Martens, was the last of this group, which could withstand the pressure of the field and won with two seconds ahead. His former companions Fabian Wegmann, Sebastian Siedler and Linus Gerdemann was collected on the target round from the field.
