Nate Brooks

Nathan " Nate " Eugene Brooks ( * August 4, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio ) is a retired American boxer and Olympic champion from 1952 flyweight ( to 51 kg).

1950 and 1951 bantamweight flyweight he could each have a title at the tournament Chicago Golden Gloves win (Final winner over Jimmy Quinn or Davey Moore). In addition, he was in the two years, the Intercity Golden Gloves decide for themselves ( victories over Sharkey Lewis and Lou Perez ). In 1952, he stood in the Boxstaffel the USA at the Olympic Games in Helsinki. Brooks won his battles against Risto Luukkonen (Finland ), Alfred Zima ( Austria ), Mircea Dobrescu (Romania) and Willie Toweel ( South Africa) and in the finals. In this he won against the West German Edgar Basel and became Olympic champion.

Brooks got into professional boxing, but could not achieve similar success more to the Olympic victory. Against Eddie Crawford he cashed already in his seventh fight his first defeat. 1954 Nate Brooks could not win the North American Bantamweight title with a victory over Billy Peacock, but he lost the first fight defense against Raul Macias in Mexico City. Until his last professional fight in July 1958 in Hawaii, he lost all his fights.
