National Air and Space Museum

The National Air and Space Museum (German National Air and Space Museum ) is a Smithsonian affiliated museum in the United States. It consists of three plants, two of which are open to the public.

National Mall museum

The National Mall museum is housed in a building at the same park in Washington, DC. Shown here numerous exhibits from the history of air and space travel, including the Spirit of St. Louis or rock from the moon. Because a spatial extension of the museum has not been possible, was awarded the Steven F. Udvar- Hazy Center is building a new location in Virginia.

Steven F. Udvar- Hazy Center

This new location with the name Steven F. Udvar- Hazy Center opened in December 2003. The building is named after Steven F. Udvar- Hazy, a patron of the museum, which is strongly connected and known about the company ILFC aviation. The new complex is located south of the airport Washington Dulles International in Chantilly (Virginia), providing much larger areas and buildings as the parent company. Central to this is the large Boeing Aviation Hangar, will be exhibited in the exhibits on three levels. You have exhibits such as an SR -71 Blackbird, which include B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay, or a Concorde. The somewhat smaller James S. McDonnell Space Hangar provides, among other things, the Space Shuttle " Discovery " from. The complex is complemented by the Donald D. Engen Observation Tower. Lookout Tower provides a panoramic view of the airport Washington Dulles International and its surroundings. the newest addition is the Mary Baker Engen restoration Hangar, can view current restoration work on historical exhibits in the visitor. on April 19, 2012, the Space Shuttle " Enterprise " is replaced by " Discovery " and the "Enterprise " was then at the Intrepid Sea- Air-Space Museum in New York City passed. Paul E. Garber Facility

There is another site of the museum, the. Paul E. Garber complex in Suitland - Silver Hill, Maryland

Here exhibits are processed and stored, it is no longer open to the public. Among the planned restoration of objects is also the Horten Ho IX V3, which was captured in 1945 by the Americans in Friedrichroda.
