Nâves-Parmelan

Nâves - Parmelan is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Nâves - Parmelan is located on 640 m above sea level. M., about 6 km northeast of the town of Annecy (air line). This former farm extends a scenic location on a terrace overlooking the valley of Fier, at the edge of the Alps, at the foot of the Tête du Parmelan, in Genevois.

The area of ​​5.39 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The central part of the area is occupied by a plateau that falls to the valley of Fier to the west and south. This is deepened here at its exit from Bornes Alps around 150 m in the surrounding plateaus. The northern boundary is marked by the gully of a short side of the creek. To the east, the municipality's area extends over a wooded slope to the narrow ridge of the Montagne de la Cha, on 1278 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Nâves - Parmelan is achieved. This ridge forms the southwestern continuation of the Tête du Parmelan.

History

The territory of Nâves - Parmelan was already inhabited during the Roman period. Is first mentioned Nâves in the Middle Ages (14th century). The place name comes from the Gallic word nava ( gorge, deep valley ). In 1935 the community was renamed Nâves Nâves - Parmelan.

Attractions

The village church of Nâves - Parmelan was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style. In the center in the typical Savoyard style different houses have been preserved.

Population

With 937 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Nâves - Parmelan one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still 430 residents counted in Nâves - Parmelan ).
