Neuenhof (Swiss German: nœi̯əho ˌ ː f) is a municipality in the district of Baden in the canton of Aargau. It is located in the Limmat Valley, about three kilometers south-east of the district main town of Baden.

Geography

The village is situated on an elongated, narrow plain between the left bank of the Limmat and the steep eastern slope of Mount Clear, a range of hills between the Limmat and the Reuss valley. In a flow loop in the northwest corner of the township, opposite the monastery Wettingen, is a modern district Webermühle, which is separated by the motorway, main road and the meandering river from the rest of the village.

The municipal area is 537 hectares, of which 268 hectares are forested and built over 148 hectares. The highest point is located on 702 meters on the crest of Mount Clear, the deepest 360 meters on the Limmat river.

Neighboring municipalities are Wettingen in the north, Würenlos in the Northeast, Kill cheeks in the southeast, Staretschwil the southwest, Fislisbach in the west and Baden in the northwest.

History

1975 archaeologists dug in Oberndorf from the remains of a Roman estate. Various finds of coins and ceramic tile stamps indicate that the building was occupied by the later 1st to mid 3rd century. The further history to the Middle Ages is little explored.
