Niederglatt is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf the canton of Zurich in Switzerland.

The coat of arms of Lower Glatt is the crest of the upper bailiwick Neuamt modeled. It shows on a blue background a gold star and above a golden crescent.

Geography

Lower Smooth is located in Zurich lowlands on both sides of the Glatt. To the north is the town of Bülach and the community Hori, southwest of the town Niederhaslistrasse, southeast of the municipality of Upper ZH. In the northwest limits the Neeracherried, a nature reserve of national importance, the church. The municipality consists of the villages Nöschikon and county.

The strong growth was triggered by the proximity to the city of Zurich and the construction of the airport Zurich - Kloten and the construction of the railway Zurich - Bülach.

History

The oldest written mention of the name was in 1141 as Niderunglatto. However Nöschikon is much older. In the Alemannic conquest ( 500-700 ), a clan chief called Nosso must have settled with his people in Nossinchova.

The territory belonged 1442-1798 for Upper Bailiwick Neuamt. The district right of smoothness was in contrast to the County of Kyburg and is still called the county.

1840, the former civil parish Niederglatt was removed by order of the Grand Council of the Canton of Zurich by the community Niederhaslistrasse and declared a separate political community.

Infrastructure

Since time immemorial Niederglatt was the center of Neuamts. The Notary for the communities of the former Neuamts still stands in Lower Glatt.

In 1972, the community received its own cemetery. In the new village center Eichi a church, a Oberstufenschulhaus and a larger multi-purpose hall was completed in 1980. 1990 this center was supplemented with a community center and a nursing home with 40 beds. At the nursing home and the communities Hori, Neerach, Stadel and Weiach are involved.

Economy

The most important operation in the 20th century, the metal works Refonda AG directly at the train station. Where new and Altaluminiumschrott was melted for recycling. The melting operation in 1992 after it became known that in the vicinity of the threshold was exceeded for dioxin deposits, adjusted for economic reasons. What is new is there the Allega GmbH, initially as the Refonda a subsidiary of Alusuisse, now part of the Alcan group resident. Also at the station the ISCO printed packaging material. Another company is the sto AG, which facade insulation, plasters and paints manufactures. In addition, low- Smooth has several business establishments.

Lower Smooth was originally a purely farming village. After the construction of the railways into Wehntal and to Bülach took up residence around 1900 industrial enterprises, the new earning opportunities brought. Today there are only a few farmers who are principally engaged in agriculture, traditional farming, in Zurich lowlands.

Part of the population is employed in the local or regional trade, the larger but in the region of the airport and in the city of Zurich.

Policy

The SVP has 46.6 %, the SP 17.3%, FDP 14.2%, GP 7.0%, the CVP 4.5% and the EPP 2.6% of the vote.

Attractions

In the district Nöschikon the Lookout Mountain Ash is ( hiking signpost at the station and in Nöschikon ). From laid down under a walnut benches you can enjoy a beautiful view over the low plain and Hori to Bülach, over the Neeracherried and the entrance to Wehntal at Sünikon and Dielsdorf. The warehouses with rain mountain is just as visible as the Stadler mountain, mountain ranges in southern Germany and the Irchel.
