From 1526 to 1549 the Norder Best on the Alster best channel with the Alster was connected, so that there was a navigable route from Hamburg Alster Alster best channel, Norder Best, Best, Traveling to Lubeck. The mouth of the channel no longer exists throughout, is located north of Sülfeld.

To the Southshore best developed in the 16th century as part of the landlord farming more mills, copper works, a paper mill and other manufactories, who knew how to use the energy of the flowing water of the Southshore best economically. The facility and the lease of these businesses brought the squire of Rohlfshagen and Höltenklinken additional sources of income. The development was therefore by the Trittauer bailiff Moritz Rantzau († 1587 ) from the castle in Trittau very encouraged, not least was Rohlfshagen a good and temporary residence of his employer, Duke Adolf I of Holstein - Gottorp and Höltenklinken his own, which he of had acquired the Knight Sievert SWYN. The Thirty Years War bothered later this trend sensitive. However, the last copper hammer at the best was yet early 20th century in operation.
