The Northern Highway is a highway in the north of the Australian state of Victoria. It connects south of Wallan the Cobb Highway in Moama and Echuca with the Hume Freeway. Together with the McIvor Highway, he represents the main link between Melbourne and Bendigo

Course

From the border between Victoria and New South Wales along the Murray River in Moama Echuca and he runs to the south the Campaspe River upstream through Rochester to Elmore. There he meets the Midland Highway ( A300 ) and accompanies him about 1.5 km to the east. He then turns south again and takes at Heathcote the northwest coming McIvor Highway ( B280 ) on.

Simultaneously pivot the Northern Highway to the south- southeast, and leads to Kilmore on the crest of the Great Dividing Range and from there directly to the south until it reaches about 4 km south of the Hume Freeway Wallan ( NM31 ). The last 22 km of this route used to be part Hume Highway before it was replaced by the freeway.

Importance

The Northern Highway is a major transport route from the agricultural areas in northern Victoria and the Riverina to the port and airport in Melbourne. Along the route there are also several tourist attractions, such as the Heathcote - Graytown National Park.
