Geography

Upper Hall is located on the southern slope of the mountain in the upper Knüll Aulatal and its tributary valleys.

The nearest towns are Bad Hersfeld ( located about 25 km east ), Schwalm city ( about 24 km to the west ), (Efze ) ( about 26 km to the north ) and Alsfeld ( about 21 km south-west location ).

Neighboring communities

Oberaula bordered on the northeast by the municipality of New stone, on the east by the village of Kirchheim, in the southeast on the community of Breitenbach am Herzberg (all three in Hersfeld -Rotenburg ), in the southwest on the community Ottrau, on the west by the city of Neukirchen and northern to the city Schwarzenborn (all three in the Schwalm -Eder -Kreis).

Community structure

The municipality comprises the six districts of Upper Hall ( the seat of the municipal administration ), Hausen, Friedigerode, Ibra, Olberode and Wahlshausen.

History

Oberaula was 856 for the first time as Ovilah (translated as: "the place in a humid floodplain " or " place of the owl water") mentioned.

The Hausen was first mentioned in 1160. In the district of Hausen was early on a castle of the Abbey of Fulda, on the remains of which then the Barons of Dörnberg in 1674 its Renaissance castle built.

During the time of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813) was Oberaula capital of Canton upper hall and seat of the peace court. By 1945, the District Court Oberaula consisted

Incorporations

As part of the local municipal reform merged on April 1, 1972 the towns of Upper Aula and Hausen together. On January 1, 1974, the formation of the greater community Oberaula followed when Friedigerode, Ibra, Olberode and Wahlshausen were incorporated.

Mayor

The Mayor Klaus Wagner ( CDU ) was elected on 27 September 2009, with a vote share of 62.2 %. Before him was Karl Heinz Vestweber (SPD ) mayor, he was elected after a runoff against Klaus Wagner 1997. Karl Heinz Vestweber was re-elected in 2003 with a vote share of 73.7 %.

Coat of arms

Blazon: " Azure, a triple mount in the sign, is a three-bladed green oak break. On the Three Mountain rotbewehrte a silver owl, accompanied by three six-pointed silver stars. "

The blue background color comes from an old tradition in which a blue flag is mentioned. The owl stands for upper hall and the six stars represent the districts of the municipality. The stars were chosen because the counts of goats grove that led a star in their coat of arms, here had much influence over the centuries. The three mountain stands for the Knüllgebirge in which the municipality is located and the oak break shows the membership of the former Tourist Association Hesse-Cassel - Waldeck.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Upper Hall is located on the main road 454, which connects the town to the national road network. In particular, here is the location in about 10 km distance Kirchheimer triangle the A7 and A4 to mention.

The public transport is guaranteed by the North Hessian 's public transport network (NPT).

The crumpled Forest Railway, over which the community was connected to the rail network, there is no more since 1984. The nearest railway stations are Bad Hersfeld, Schwalm city and Homberg / Efze ( decommissioned). The former railway line has been converted to a bike path that runs from Treysa to the limit to the Hersfeld- Rotenburg.
