Obernburg am Main ( officially: Upper Castle a.Main ) is a city in the Lower Franconian district of Miltenberg and sits at the mouth of the Mömling in the Main at the foot of the Odenwald.

Name
Etymology
The name Upper castle is composed of the Old High German words oboro, in terms of higher or further situated above and burc for a fortified place. The explanation results from further up the valley (as low castle, now low mountain ) situated, fortified place.

History
To 107/110 AD, the fort upper castle was built by the Romans, also called in the local parlance Nemaninga. In the precincts of the Old Town Upper Petersburg to draw today from the main camp streets of the fort. The Roman troops remained the place up to 260/275 AD Then populated Germans.

Coat of arms
The current coat of arms leading the city since 1818. The previous coat of arms with the Wheel of Mainz was posted to Bavaria in the course of the connection.
