Oberschleißheim

Oberschleißheim is a community in the Upper Bavarian district of Munich and is located on the northern outskirts of Munich. Known about the region, it is mainly through its three castles and the more than 100 -year-old airport, which today hosts a branch of the Deutsches Museum. In addition to Munich Oberschleissheim borders, Dachau, Unterschleißheim and Garching. Oberschleißheim is a member of the Northern Alliance, an informal association of eight municipalities in the north of Munich.

Community structure

The municipality comprises the main town and the villages of Bader Field, Hochmutting, cross street, like home, Mallertshofen, home center and Neuherberg.

History

Schleißheim 785 was first mentioned as " Sliusheim ". 1315 appears the place as " Sleizheim ". When Duke William V ( the Pious ) there acquired a Schwaige Schleißheim became a secondary and later hunting seat of the Wittelsbach dynasty. Between 1616 and 1623, Duke Maximilian I build the Old Palace. From 1701 to 1726 the New Palace was built by order of Elector Max Emanuel, as is the desire home castle.

Mid-19th century Oberschleißheim received a station named " Schleißheim " at the Munich- Landshut. This was replaced in 1972 as part of the S -Bahn - opening with a new station " Oberschleissheim " a few hundred meters to the north. In 1912 the airfield, which is now the oldest active airfield in Germany. 1917 by the Schleißheimerstraße was interrupted as a direct road connection to Munich, since it ends in the Munich district of Hasenbergl. During World War II Air Force Base was heavily bombed, which led to considerable damage in the local area and the castle.

Coat of arms

The upper Schleißheimer municipal coat of arms was designed by the local heraldist Otto Hupp and approved by the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior on 10 December 1925.

Nature

On the north east of the municipality - adjacent to the municipality and town of Garching Eching - has Oberschleißheim also share in the nature reserve Mallertshofer wood with Gentiles.

In Oberschleißheim is home to some of the facilities of the veterinary faculty of the Ludwig- Maximilians- University Munich ( LMU) and the Helmholtz Zentrum München.

  • Waldemar Bonsels (1880-1952), writer, wrote in Oberschleißheim including his famous stories Maya the Bee and her adventures (1912 ) and Sky People (1915 ).
  • Otto Hupp (1859-1949), artisans, heraldry and lettering artist.
  • Paul Klee (1879-1940), painter, spent from 1916 to 1917 a part of his military service at the airfield Oberschleißheim, where he was responsible among other things for the camouflage of the aircraft.
