Octave Dierckx

Octave Victor Anna Dierckx (* October 15, 1882 in Antwerp, Flanders, Belgium, † March 21 1955 in Uccle / Ukkel, Brussels -Capital Region, Belgium) was a Belgian politician of the Liberal Partij and several times minister.

Biography

After school he studied law and worked as a lawyer after becoming a Doctor of Jurisprudence.

His political career began in 1920 with the election as a member of the municipal council of Ixelles / Elsene. In addition, he was from 1925 to 1929 member of the Council of the former province of Brabant. He then became a member of the Senate in 1929, where he remained until his death in 1955.

After he was Party from 1933 to 1934 Chairman of the Liberal, he was appointed by Prime Minister Georges Theunis for Transport and Minister for postal, telephone and telegraph ( PTT) for the first time appointed a government in 1934 and belonged to this until 1935. In the cabinet of Prime Minister Paul -Émile Janson he was then from November 1937 to May 1938 Minister of the Interior and in the subsequent government of Paul -Henri Spaak 1938-1939 Minister of Public Instruction.

For his political achievements, he was awarded on September 3, 1945 in addition to some other politicians with the honorary title of Minister of State.

He was most recently 1949-1950 Minister without Portfolio in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Gaston Eyskens.
