Orchamps-Vennes

Orchamps -Vennes is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Orchamps -Vennes is located at 777 m above sea level, 10 km north- west of Morteau and about 40 km east-southeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, on the western edge of the basin of Vennes, on a slightly inclined slope to the east at the foot of the forest height of the Bois de la Cote.

The area of ​​24.79 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of Vennes, which has a width of about 4 km and a length of nearly 10 km away and is on average 770 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. Sunk in the basin are several dry valleys that belong topographically to the catchment area of the Dessoubre.

To the north, the municipality's area extends up to the Col des Talfurche age (785 m), which establishes the connection from the pool of Vennes to the plateau of Valdahon. The western boundary runs along the partly forested, partly planted with pasture ridge of the Bois de la Cote ( 931 m). It forms an anticline of the Jura Mountains and is oriented according to the strike of the mountain range in the southwest-northeast direction. In the south of the municipality floor extends over a range of terrain ridges and intervening valleys down to the rocky ridge of the Bois d' Orchamps ( 1005 m ) in the region of the Col du Tonet ( transition into the Doubs Valley ). History

Since the 16th century Orchamps -Vennes was the most important town in the basin of Vennes. It developed into a trading post at the Thoroughfare of Besancon to Le Locle and La Chaux -de-Fonds. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1998 Orchamps -Vennes is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

On 1 January 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

With the construction of the village church of Orchamps -Vennes was started in 1520. The church has a rich interior, including a pulpit from the 17th century and an altarpiece from the 18th century. In the village is the Musée de l' Outil à bois.

Population

With 1908 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Orchamps -Vennes is one of the smaller communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area between 900 and 1000 people, a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Orchamps -Vennes was to the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, farming ) and forestry embossed village.
