Osaka Prefecture

The Osaka prefecture (Japanese大阪 府Ōsaka -fu ) is a prefecture of Japan. It is located in the Kinki region on Honshu island. Seat of the prefectural government is the city of Osaka.

History

The Osaka prefecture was established in 1868 as the successor of the former Shōgunatsverwaltung for the city of Osaka ( Osaka -machi - Bugyo ). After the abolition of the Han, the fiefs of the feudal period, in 1871, it included roughly the northern third of its current territory. 1881 annexed the Osaka Prefecture Sakai Prefecture, her territory expanded to the present territory of the present-day Nara Prefecture and additionally from which was finally isolated in 1887 from Osaka.
