Osu Sukam

Malayan Name: The name component "bin Haji Sukam " is a patronymic, not a family name; the person so called Osu.

Datuk Seri Osu Haji Sukam am was the 12th Prime Minister of the State of Sabah. He was followed in 1999 by Bernard Dompok and remained until 2001, in office. Osu, a Bajau came through the principle of rotation then applied to office and represented the Muslim Bumiputeras of Sabah. He was replaced by Chong Kah Kiat 2001. By 14 July 2005, he was a member of the ruling party United Malays National Organization ( UMNO ), but had to because of his at the Ritz Hotel Casino in London and other gambling casinos accumulated gambling debts in the amount of USD $ 1.8 million to resign. Osu amazed by his resemblance to Roland Lee Gift, the lead singer of the pop group Fine Young Cannibals.

Gambling debts

After a judgment of the High Court in England, The Ritz London may collect the debt accumulated by Osu. In order to enforce his claims also in Malaysia, the casino was trying to make the judgment of the Supreme Court of Sabah and Sarawak claims in July 2005. The Supreme Court in Kota Kinabalu dropped the lawsuit but from reasons of state not to. 2007, however, the Court of Appeal ruled in favor of the plaintiff.
