Yong Teck Lee

Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, PGDK, PJN ( born October 3, 1958 in Lahad Datu, Sabah ) is a Malaysian politician and was the 10th Prime Minister of the State of Sabah. He was followed in 1996 by Salleh Said Keruak and was replaced by Bernard Dompok Giluk 1998. Yong, a Hakka, is chairman of the party Sabah Progressive Party ( SAPP).

Private life

Yong Teck Lee was born on October 3, 1958 in Lahad Datu. After completing primary school St. Dominic School in Lahad Datu he went from 1965 to 1973 to Lok Yuk Secondary School in Likas. Sabah. He then studied law at London University and became a member of the Law Society of Lincoln's Inn. In 1983 he obtained his Barrister -at -Law. He is married to Stella Kong Yin Kiun.

Political career

Upon his return to Malaysia Yong worked from 1984 to 1985, first as a lawyer in Sabah and Labuan. From 1985 until June 2001 he was a deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Sabah for the constituency of Likas. The beginning of his career in government began in April 1985 as an Assistant State Minister of Local Government & Housing ( April 1985-December 1987 ) and from January State as Assistant Minister of Finance. From July 1990, he served until 10 January 1994 as Deputy Prime Minister and as Minister for Industrial Development (State Minister of Industrial Development ). From 24 March 1994 until 28 May 1996, he was re-appointed as Deputy Prime Minister, he was also at this time Minister of Local Government and Housing.

Yong was then practiced by the Barisan Nasional coalition party of the rotation principle on 28 May 1996 Prime Minister of Sabah. Previously, he has held the office of Deputy Prime Minister. In 1994, he was resigned from the party United Sabah Party (PBS ), citing his disappointment with their leaders and founded the party SAPP. However, the new party was again a member of the Barisan Nasional coalition party, led in Sabah through the PBS.

Defamation in the Double- Six Case

On 29 February 2012, the Supreme Court Yong sentenced to pay a fine of 1 million ringgit to the former prime minister Harris Salleh as compensation for the defamatory allegation, Harris Salleh was in connection with the death of Tun Fuad Stephens ' blood on their hands ". The use of the words " crime" and " assassination " was defamatory in that context.

On June 6, 1976, the then Prime Minister Tun Fuad Stephens and several cabinet members were aboard a flight from Labuan to Kota Kinabalu. About 2 km from the Kota Kinabalu International Airport crashed the machine; all occupants on board were killed. Immediately after the disaster came on conspiracy theories about the cause of the crash because of the misfortune Harris Salleh was Prime Minister of Sabah.

Awards and honors

Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu ( PGDK ) - - 1990 Yong of the second degree was the Illustrious Order of Kinabalu awarded.

As part of the celebration of the birthday of the Yang di - Pertuan Agong Yong 1996 was awarded the Order Panglima Jasa Negara ( PJN ). The ceremony includes the right to use the title Datuk, and prefix the name.
